          7) Nouns are subject complement                                                                 

 A noun, pronoun or adjective that renames or describes the subject after a verb of being or a linking verb.

Here subject complement may be noun or pronoun or adjectives.

Examples: -
·         He is an engineer.
[here “engineer” is a noun that act as a subject complement for the noun (subject) “He”]

·         I became a doctor.
[here “doctor” is a noun that act as a subject complement for the noun (subject) “I”]

·         The sweets are delicious.
[here “delicious” is an adjective that act as a subject complement for the noun (subject “sweets”)]

·         The duty is changed to her.
[here “her” is a pronoun that act as a subject complement for the noun (subject) “duty”]

·         The art looks nice.
[here “nice” is an adjective that act as a subject complement for the noun (subject) “art”]

·         The dog was named Jimmy.
[here “Jimmy” is a noun that act as a subject complement for the noun (subject) “dog”]

·         Her cooking is tasty.
[here “tasty” is an adjective that act as a subject complement for the noun(subject) “Her cooking”]

·         She wants to be a teacher.
 [here “teacher” is a noun that act as a subject complement for the noun (subject) “she”]

·         The food tasted yummy.
[here “yummy” is an adjective that act as a subject complement for the noun (subject) “food”]

·         Ravi replaced for me.
[here “me” is a pronoun that act as a subject complement for the noun (subject) “Ravi”]

·         The dance could categorize Bharatham.
[here “Bharatham” is a noun that act as a subject complement for the noun (subject) “dance”]

    
     8) Nouns are retained object. 
                                                           
A noun or pronoun answering "whom" or "what" after a passive verb.

Examples: -
·         Srilanka was won by three wickets.
(What was Srilanka won by? The answer is “three wickets”, so the retained object is three wickets.)

·         The car had been bought by my friend.
(Whom had the car been bought by? The answer is “my friend”, so the retained object is my friend)

·         Our planet is wrapped in a mass of gases.
(What is our planet wrapped in? The answer is “mass of gases”, so the retained object is mass of gases.)

·         You will be tested on your marks.
(What will you be tested on you ? The answer is “marks”, so the retained object is marks.)

·         She was being invited to the party.
(What was she being invited to? The answer is “party”, so the retained object is party.)

·         The meeting will have been postponed by the leader.
(Whom will the meeting have been postponed by ? The answer is “leader”, so the retained object is leader.)

·         The art was drawn by Nimal.
(Whom was the art drawn by? The answer is “Nimal”, so the retained object is Nimal)

·         The gift was given by the chief guest.
(Whom was the gift given by? The answer is “chief guest”, so the retained object is chief guest)

·         The trees were cut by somebody.
(Whom were the trees cut by? The answer is “somebody”, so the retained object is somebody)

·         The house has been damaged by the flood.
(What has the house been damaged by? The answer is “flood”, so the retained object is flood.)
